Step 1: Print Your Templates

Step 2: Cut Out the Main Elements
Carefully cut along the solid outer border of the main rectangular lantern template. Also, make sure to cut out the matching long rectangular strip located on the side of the page—this will serve as your lantern's top carrying handle!
Step 3: Fold Lengthwise
Fold the main rectangular piece of paper precisely in half lengthwise (hot dog style), matching the outer edges evenly. Ensure that the printed colorful graphics are facing outward so you can easily see your cutting guide lines.
Step 4: Snip the Slits
With the paper kept folded, use your safety scissors to slice along the marked parallel vertical lines starting directly from the folded center crease. Be careful to stop cutting exactly where each line ends—do not slice all the way to the outer edge of the paper!
Step 5: Unfold and Loop
Unfold the sheet completely and lay it flat. Roll the paper horizontally into a cylinder shape so that the short left and right side borders meet and overlap.
Step 6: Secure the Edges
Apply a line of glue stick or double-sided tape down the overlapping seam, then press firmly until secure. You can also use a quick staple at the top and bottom of the seam to ensure it holds permanently. As the edges come together, the cut strips in the center will naturally bow outward into a gorgeous 3D lantern shape!
Step 7: Attach the Handle
Take the paper handle strip you cut out during Step 2. Apply a dab of glue or tape to each end of the strip, then attach it to opposite inner sides of the top rim to complete your lantern basket look.
Step 8: Light It Up Safely!
